Today I would like to share with you all about one of the oldest paintings in India is Madhubani or Mithila painting.
Madhubani, or Mithila, painting is a folk painting of northern India. It is mostly practiced by women in the villages who have passed this art to their daughters through multiple generations. They paint pictures of nature and mythology to depict different events like birth, marriage, and cycles of life. Though this folk art has been practiced for centuries it started to gain national recognition only in the last few decades.
The origin can be traced to the time of the Ramayana, when King Janaka of Nepal ordered his kingdom to decorate the town for the wedding of his daughter, Sita, to Lord Rama.Still people are following this tradition during marriage ceremonies.
Painting is done with fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks, using natural dyes and pigments, and is characterized by eye-catching geometrical patterns. If you want to your children about Indian paintings you can teach this Painting. It's having lot of easy designs.
I reproduced some paintings of famous madhubani artist Bharti Dayal.
