Maharashtra is known for its folk Warli painting. Warli is the name of the largest tribe found on the northern outskirts of Mumbai in western India.
Warli painting is the vivid expression of daily and social life of the Warli tribe, used by them embellish the walls of village house.Mostly women are engaged to creation of this Painting. Painted white on earthy red mud walls, they are pretty close to pre-historic cave paintings in execution and usually depict scenes of human figures engaged in activities like hunting, dancing, sowing and harvesting.
They used skewed bamboo sticks as brush and draw out with paste of rice powder with water as paints on the walls of warli people huts.The traditional warli painting red mud background with white paints.In Modern warli painting people are using different color background.
